Simulation of any of the practical assessments is not allowed.
The candidate should bring some supporting evidence to the exam which proves
they have experience in the practical areas.
Evidence that can be used:
Journey logs of previously made trips
Witness testimony of employer
CV which shows employment with horse transport company
NVQ L3 transport unit 304 (handlers)
This evidence needs to be kept in our files for our External Verifier.
How do you get started?
If you are interested in taking this exam, please complete the candidate registration form and send it to Summerhouse together with a cheque for the required exam fee made out to SEC and a contact telephone number.
As soon as payment is received we will contact you to arrange an exam date and register you for the exam.
Depending on the interest for this exam, we may organise set dates for the theory exam. We will publish those dates on our website www.summerhouseec.co.uk
The practical exam can be quite informal, with enough prior notice we may be able to do this when you are coming down for a competition at Summerhouse. Our assessor can then observe you driving/loading and unloading your own horses.
For the handling certificate we can also provide our own lorry and schoolhorses for you to use.
We may be able to send our examiner to your yard, so you can do the exam at your workplace. We would need to apply for approval for this from BHE&ST which means there are some conditions to this. You would be asked to pay for the examiners travel time, but if you have more than 4 people taking the exam we will reduce or waive this fee.
Please enquire about this with Irma Sutton 07814 767701 (weekdays)
When you are registered for the ACET exam, you receive a record of achievement booklet that you will need to bring with you for each part of the exam you take, so your assessor can sign off the parts that you have achieved.
For the practical exam you also need to bring with you the supporting evidence (as described above) to prove your previous experience.
When you have achieved all the units for your qualification the booklet will be sent to BHE&ST for certification.
