What is Train to Gain?

‘Train to Gain' is a training programme aimed at employees and volunteers who wish to achieve qualifications to support them at work. It is particularly aimed at helping those people who do not yet have a full level 2 (equivalent to an NVQ Level 2 or 5 GCSE’s Grade A – C), to achieve their first full level 2.


What qualification can I achieve?

NVQ 2 and 3 and many other additional skills
    NVQ Level 2 or 3
    Equal Opportunities and Diversity training Certificate
    Power of Positive Thinking training Certificate
    Optional Extra qualifications at no additional cost
    Key Skills in Communications
    Application of Number
    Working with Others
    Information Technology
    Optional Extra qualifications with additional cost
    First Aid Certificate
    BHEST Technical Certificate
    BHS exams
    Level 3 Coaching Certificate (Optional Extra)

How much does it cost?

There is a course contribution of £100 to be paid towards your training costs.

When can I start?

Training can start at any time of the year, depending on government funding constraints. Should all the government funded courses be full for the year, you could choose to pay in full for your qualification

What does it cost for me to pay in full for my own qualification?

NVQ Level 1 in Horse Care - £400
NVQ Level 2 in Horse Care - £650
NVQ Level 3 in Horse Care - £950

Where does the training take place?

The training normally takes place in the work place, although there is the option to come to Summerhouse as training needs require and for Keys skills training

Can my employer claim back my wages, whilst I am training?

A contribution to wage costs is usually available to companies with 50 employees or fewer. This might cover the costs of employees being away from their workplace while they complete their training.
