Riding Lessons at Summerhouse

Take up Riding with Summerhouse Education and Equitation Centre...

How long are the lessons?

Normally 45 minutes although 20 minute lessons are available.

How do I start?

Please telephone us on 01452 720288 or drop into the reception desk at Summerhouse to arrange a suitable lesson at a convenient time.

Can I come and view the school?

Yes, we welcome site visits.

What do I wear?

You can hire a new "PAS015" standard skull cap for your first lesson from us (cost 50p per lesson). Wellington boots, shoes or boots with a small heel are to be preferred to trainers which can slip through the stirrups. Jogging trousers or leggings are more comfortable than jeans.

Will I be safe?

Yes, we will do our utmost to keep you safe. However, horses and ponies may sometimes be unpredictable.

Are the staff qualified?

We are a British Horse Society (BHS) and Association of British Riding Schools (ABRS) approved Centre. Our instructors all hold qualifications ranging from BHS Stage II (instructors in training) to Intermediate Instructor Level (BHSII). The Director - Helen Gallop, is qualified to BHSI Equine Degree Level standard.

Am I too young?... too old?...

We are able to cater for the smallest tot on Chester the loveable 11hh pony, to the tallest rider on Porthos the majestic part Shire Horse. Our riders range from 3 to 73 years old (maximum weight 17 stone). For safety reasons we ask for children under six years to be accompanied / led by a parent or guardian while they are learning.

When can I ride?

All year round between 0900 - 2100 hrs Monday to Friday and 0900 - 1700 hrs on Saturdays and Sundays.

Will I have the same instructor each time?

Yes, we endeavour to maintain continuity with instructors. However, factors such as sickness, holidays etc. need to be taken into consideration. We aim to give a friendly personal service with small classes to enable good communication between our instructors and clients.

Can parents watch?

Yes, we have a comfortable, heated gallery overlooking the arena, where hot and cold refreshments may be purchased.

How much will the lessons cost?

Please click here for our current price list.

Any discounts?

Yes, book ten lessons and you will only pay for nine. (Advanced Payments required, please see reception)

What other activities are there?

We have regular shows and competitions for newcomers and more experienced riders. We also run a Summerhouse branch of the Pony Club. Or you may wish to enrol on one of our training courses. Adult fundays and gymkhanas are also held regularly throughout the year.
